Do I need a contract to sign up?
Yes, since we are a cooperative, most new services require either a 12 or 24 month contract to ensure that our members’ investments are protected.
Is equipment included in the price?
Each HomeWorks Connect internet plan includes a state-of-the-art modem which allows you to hardwire devices to the internet. If you’d like Wi-Fi, you can pay an additional $10/month for our Optimized Wi-Fi which includes a lifetime warranty dual-band router, or you can purchase, connect, and maintain your own router that suits your needs.
Can I upgrade my plan later?
Absolutely. You can change your plan at any time to fit your needs.
What’s the installation cost?
HomeWorks Tri-County Electric members pay NO install fee! If you don’t receive electric from HomeWorks Tri-County, there may be an installation fee depending on your location.
Do you offer the Lifeline Rate Program for low-income consumers?
The Lifeline Program, a government assistance program subsidized through the Universal Service Fund, provides discounted telephone or internet service for low-income consumers. Additionally, the Michigan Public Service Commission has created a website collecting all information about home energy, phone, and internet bill assistance: https://www.michigan.gov/mpsc/consumer/get-help.
To be eligible for Lifeline, you must meet income-based requirements (<135% of the federal poverty level) or participate in one of the following programs:
-Medicaid
-Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
-Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
-Federal Public Housing Assistance
-Tribal Eligibility Programs (and living on federally recognized Tribal lands), or
-Veterans and Survivors Pension Benefit
Your eligibility to participate in these programs will be verified by HomeWorks or an authorized state agency. Lifeline is non-transferable and is limited to one discount per household (i.e. phone OR internet). Only eligible consumers may enroll and a household cannot receive Lifeline benefits from multiple providers.
Enrollees will receive a monthly credit on their HomeWorks Connect bill. Residents of federally recognized tribal lands may receive an additional reduction. Additional state support may be available.
Residential Discount For Internet Or Phone:
-Lifeline Discount: $9.25 internet, $9.25 phone, $9.25 bundled
-Lifeline Senior: $12.35 phone
-Lifeline Tribal: $34.25 internet, $34.25 phone, $34.25 bundled
Does fiber work during power outages?
Internet equipment requires power to operate which means it won’t work during a power outage unless you have a generator. For phone services, we do provide a battery backup to allow equipment to operate during emergencies.
Can I keep my phone number if I switch to your landline?
Yes, in most cases you can port your existing number.
Is there a data cap or throttling?
No. All plans include unlimited data with no throttling or speed reduction.
How long does installation take?
Installation is typically 4-6 weeks from the date you sign your contract. If you have questions about that timeline, please give us a call at 800-668-8413.
