Help create a responsible energy plan.

Pressure is mounting to do something about climate change. However, climate change is merely one aspect of a looming energy crisis. As electric co-op members, we must work with elected officials to create a plan that accounts for the environment as well as reliability and affordability concerns.

That is why HomeWorks Tri-County Electric Cooperative is encouraging our members to contact their elected officials. You don't need to be an energy expert to ask questions. Asking questions will help find the answers needed to achieve climate change goals without significant sacrifices of reliability or affordability.

Question #1
Experts say that our nation's growing electricity needs will soon go well beyond what renewables, conservation and efficiency can provide. What is your plan to make sure we have the electricity we'll need in the future?

Question #2
What are you doing to fully fund the research required to make emissions free electric plants an affordable reality?

Question #3

Dear Representative _________ [or Senator, use the appropriate title]

I want to start a conversation with you about how we meet our nation's growing energy needs.

The federal government has tasked the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) to monitor our nation's electric system.

NERC CEO Rick Sergel in January declared, "We're very close to the edge. We operate under tight conditions more often than ever. We need action in the next year or two to start on the path to having enough electricity 10 years from now."

What is your plan to make sure we have the electricity we'll need over the next ten years while we reduce greenhouse gas emissions?

I look forward to your answer and will share it with my friends and neighbors. Thank you in advance for your time and attention to my question.

Sincerely,
