Why do we send our members a magazine 10 months a year?

We send Country Lines to you because it is a convenient and economical way to share information with members.

It takes the place of many mailings we would otherwise make to get information to you about our services, director elections, and member meetings, and about the staff and management decisions you should know about as an owner of the cooperative. The magazine also carries legal notices that we would otherwise have to place in other local media at a substantial cost.

And, sending Country Lines to you helps the cooperative fulfill one of the cooperative principles — to educate, and communicate openly with, members.

The board of directors authorizes the cooperative to subscribe to Country Lines on behalf of the membership at a cost ranging from $3 to $4 per year, paid as part of your electric bill. The current cost of the magazine is 31 cents per copy, less than the cost of a first-class stamp.

Country Lines is published for us, at cost, by the Michigan Electric Cooperative Association in Okemos. As always, we value your comments about your magazine.

  • We send one copy per membership, to the address where you receive your energy bill. If you receive duplicate copies, please call us at 1-800-562-8232, or email jayne@homeworks.org.

  • If you’re going out of state for more than a month or so, please call our office or email us to change the address on your account temporarily (and be sure to let us know when you’ll be back at your home address). As second-class mail, Country Lines is generally not forwarded to you by the Post Office.

  • Please note that if you are a member of more than one Michigan electric cooperative, you will receive one copy from each of us. Because Country Lines is the most cost-effective way to reach our members with the legal notices we are required to publish for you, we are unable to remove any member from our mailing list.
